Inquiry Model
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS MODEL: I like this model because it can be modified to be effective in a variety of content areas. Primary modifications exist in the way data is gathered to examine to investigate hypotheses. The Inquiry Model also increases students motivation because it capitalizes on the motivating effects of curiosity, challenge, authentic tasks, involvement, and autonomy, all factors that increase students' motivation to learn.
POSSIBLE DRAWBACKS OF USING THIS MODEL: A possible drawback of using this model is that the Inquiry Model is best used when teaching the scientific method, and is often referred to as scientific inquiry. The Inquiry Model is a teaching model designed to give students experience with the scientific method.
HOW I CAN SEE MYSELF USING THIS MODEL: I can see myself using this model by identifying a question that is appropriate for Inquiry means that the question must involve a variable that can be manipulated and an effect that can be measured. Like, "What would happen if this bill was passed or not passed in the USA today?"
OTHER COMMENTS/COMPARISONS: It is important to understand the Inquiry Model because it is a process of systematically answering questions based on evidence.Inquiry Model is grounded in the scientific method and is designed to provide students with practice in scientific inquiry.
Inquiry Model Lesson Plan Example
One of the strengths in this lesson plan is that it gives extensive amounts of details so that any teacher could implement it in their classroom. The teacher even goes as far as to give websites tat may be used during this lesson.
One of the weaknesses in this lesson plan is the extensive amount of planning that would have to go into it. To implement this lesson in a history classroom the lesson may not need to be as in depth as is outlined by the teacher in the lesson plan.
This lesson plan is very well executed for an English lesson. The only downside is that it, yet again, is not a history lesson plan.I could use this lesson plan in my classroom for history rather than english by using a different book. Such as, the diary of Anne Frank, when discussing the Holocaust.
Inquiry Model Lesson Plan Example
One of the strengths in this lesson plan is that the teacher listed all of the websites, attatchments, and books that were key in their vocabulary development. The teacher also gave a multitude of uploadable resource files so that other teachers may see their resources. This is very helpful for other teachers so that they may learn how this particular teacher came to create this lesson plan
One of the weaknesses in this lesson plan was that they do not list accomodations or modifications for diverse or disabled students. The Inquiry Model can be modified to be effective in a variety of content areas. Primary modifications exist in the way data is gathered to examine to investigate hypotheses
In this lesson plan the teacher made the lesson very relatable for their students through Direct Instruction and Modeling. In this lesson plan the students will calculate elapsed time using the Cartoon Network TV schedule, an individual plastic/paper clock and/or a time line. The students will be given various problems using the TV schedule with the tools (clock and/or time line) to assist with calculations.
