I LIKE ABOUT THIS MODEL: This model is good to use because it has been proven to raise students achievemment levels.Teachers can adapt this model by giving more high quality concrete examples for diverse students and younger students. To modify to increase an emphasis on thinking teachers can display all the additional examples instead of presenting them one at a time.
POSSIBLE DRAWBACKS OF USING THIS MODEL: While this model motivates students by giving them a mixture of examples and non examples giving their sense of challenge a boost, only a few students get the concepts being taught quickly while other students may need to apply themselves a little more to understand the lesson.
HOW I CAN SEE MYSELF USING THIS MODEL: I can see myself using this model by giving examples and non examples of different geographical locations in the world by telling students what the country is and what the climate and terrain are like there. Then have them point to me on a map where the country is located to prove to me that they
OTHER COMMENTS/COMPARISONS: By using the Concept Attainment Model teachers use critical thinking and the scientific processto help students gain a better understanding of a concept being taught. Teachers can ask students to define the concept or pick out the definition that best describes the concept that was taught. Teachers can also get students to identify the characteristics
Some of the strong points in this model is that it caused students to construct a concept hierarchy which identifies the superordinate, subordinate, and coordinate concepts.Through this lesson students had to apply a logical, reasonable thinking process to a paradoxical statement that leads to contradictory conclusions. They also had to apply a logical and reasonable thinking process to a problem that leads to a rational conclusion.
One of the weaknesses of this model was that the teacher did not provide any modifications or accomidation examples for a diverse learner classrooms. If this teacher gave more concrete or higher quality examples then it would be easier to use this model for diverse learners.
This teacher deviates from the model by not giving students any group work. If this was implemented then students involvement would increase and it would also boost their motivation through peer interaction.
Some of the strong points in this model is that this model wass perfectly planned out for elementary students. This is due to the fact that it increases intrinsic motivation and introduces younger students to the scientific method. The teacher took into account that gender or cultural concerns may affect your instructional or assessment choices in this lesson. The teacher addressed this by having students work in table groups which provided opportunities for students who best learn material during discussions
One of the weaknesses of this model is that the teacher did not re-introduce the concept at the begining of class. This is bad because the students did not get to understand the relationship among concepts and help them elaborate and develop these concepts based on previous knowledge learned.
This teacher deviates from the model on assessing the students by having them write down their recounting of the lesson as it unfolded and how did the class go through their own assessment of the ideas that emerged rather than asking students to define the concept or pick out the definition that best describes the concept that was taught. The teacher can also get students to identify the characteristics of the concept.
